This stupid action makes me think about quitting RS. I've always enjoyed playing, skilling, getting better etc. Now, people can just BUY all the things i've worked for for more then 5 years. They fight claim to fight RWT, then they do this? Check out the rules thingy, EVERYTHING in the RWT section is completely the opposite of what they just did with the squeel. Makes me think why I am still paying those idiots to devellop RuinScape.

Hmm,

it seems that there is a $200 limit for the purchases. Didn't see that
in any of the release notes.

http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/sl=0/forums.ws?15,16,228,63663803

Was it there originally or added after the release?

was there originally, but no1 knows the how long the $ 200 limit is for. eg 1 month, week, etc.

hmm well as jagex had 3 possible ways to get more money:
1)lure much new players - at this they ofc failed, not surprise with quality of updates in past years (nothing original, close to nothing fun content, only either full-grind or noob-nerfs, and graphics updates at cost of gameplay(+graphics arent still that good + fpslag many arehaving)
2) raise membership payment - which they already did and still needed more money were hungry for more money. if they would raise them much more, i think great percentage of players would quit member because theres no good content for that money anyway. so i see why they went with:
3)microtransaction. this also somewhat rivaled botters doing RWT, poor jagex thinking they got 2 flies with 1 troll tongue.

imo with few changes jagex could have impletemented this so much more smootly, causing much less hate from players:

a) should have made this epitome of troll-game-ruinage feature more invisible. as it is, players are reminded of this every day when they 1st log in. creating it a place or game or smthing in rs. dont think it would have stopped ppl from buying spins if they wanted to.
b) make a limit to spins bought/month or week. ex: max 500k extra rc xp buyable per month instead of unlimited xp when ever they want it. since they didnt do this imo its obvious they are targeting these whales sini mentioned (whales?? Very Happy ) but also way they did it means the income will wear down by bit in short while, only whales left
c)make buying spins possible only if account is older than x months. idk what this would fix but etc

also, think of someone trying to get 99 rcing. he rc 1-80 normally at steady 20k xp/h, then he gets bored and decides to try the easy way. he buy 500k quick xp with spins. now he has choice to spend over §100 more for 99 or go back to normal skilling. will he find 20k xp/h very meaningful anymore, i dont think so. at this point he get frustrated+bored and probs quit (atleast rc). he realize he has payed heavy dollars for skipping the part he paid for with subcription. fact that hes still playing game means he has had fun with the game in past. games are played for fun (should be atleast). so what jagex is really doing they are selling the removal of fun from the game, ingenious marketing scratch

Shocked wallclimbing??

tldr: jagex (expectably) does it wrong (again) O_o

Well,

it looks like Jagex has an unshakeable faith that long time players
will not quit no matter what Jagex throws at them. And maybe Jagex
is right - look what Suomi said. When you have put so many hours
into your character it is indeed hard to let go.

Then about this microtransaction system (because that's what the
spinning is). If it goes along to the normal lines this is what is going
to happen:

- The great majority (~60%) will never use it
- About a third (~35%) will spend around $20 to $200
- A tiny fraction of players (less than 1%) will use a lot of money

In the software business the third group is called "the whales". The
whole system relies on the whales because one whale can spend
several thousand dollars to a game.

The sad part is that there are basically two different types of the whales:

1) People who have so much money that a few thousands is only pocket money for them.

2) People who actually couldn't afford that kind of sums of money, but they still spend it.

This is *not* gambling - as you are guaranteed to win an item each time when you spin the Squeal (and there is no real world monetary gain by winning anything on the Squeal) it is not gambling.

Yeah Sini, but Jagex are again trying to help the newer members, getting the gear/xp etc etc, and some of them love the idea, but Jagex really don't understand about people like us who have been playing for over 5 years, and including the max players, who basicly just got F'd with this update, their trying to hard to appeal to the newer player base.. it just annoys me their going against everything they said they wouldn't in the past.

What I don't understand is why they are doing this now.
RS has gained a lot of new members and everything
should be fine. There should be no need to anger the
old customer base. But still they do it well knowing that
many customers will be extremely angry.

My theory is that we don't see the correct picture.

heh... think jeigex though this thru all right Very Happy racing old school RTWers to bidding war and getting all the hate in the process. saw some kind of microtrollsaction coming tbh but this is quite... quite [insert the word i cant think of right now here].

btw "max-my-levels" button come tru today (i was actually 90% joking when i said there will be one soon) ofc jagex getting some grands for that (~35k$??), but imo no doubt there will be someone to max 1-99 all skills in a day soon

"We don’t want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues RuneScape for others. We feel your status in real-life shouldn’t affect your ability to be successful in RuneScape."

So.. uh.. yeah, thats gone now right?

Do you mean this:

If you require more spins, or simply prefer to save some time,
you can purchase various spin packages. To do this, simply click
the "buy spins" button within the Squeal of Fortune interface.

http://services.runescape.com/m=news/squeal-of-fortune--extra-spins

So far I have seen an estimate that you can get about 800k exp
in hour in a skill of your choice, at a cost of $200/hr, assuming
an 8% chance at a Medium lamp.

One person tried it and bought 75 spins (about $20):

Quote :
Out of 75 spins I got 6 double spin tickets. Out of, then, 81 spins,
I got 22 50gp drops, 18 small lamps, 14 medium lamps, and the
rest were common/uncommon items. Like 70k herblore exp total.
Money talks?
