Hmm,

the Staff of Light has att (and mage) level 75 req's, but
its melee stats are much better than what the stick has.

Stab......55.............55
Slash.....60.............70
Crush......0...............0
Str.........55.............72

So pretty hard to justify the level 80 attack requirement.
I think that they just wanted to add more "high level content"
to make people train more, but this one didn't go through.

Edit: the stick has higher stab bonus than the polypore staff?

I think most staffs have traditionally had an atk lvl req equal to the magic lvl req, maybe they'll change that for the future now.

Yes,

I read it too. So the stick has so high melee stats that it required
att level 80. Better than a godsword? Can someone post the stats of
the stick?

This is what Mod Ash wrote:

From the recent updates FAQ for this update:

I read from the RSOF that the new staff seems to be very good.
But they also said that it is a mage-only weapon so you cannot
melee with it. Then why it has attack level 80 as a requirement
to wield? (No need to answer, that was a rhetorical question.)

The best body has the following stats.

Attack bonuses:

0 Stab
0 Slash
0 Crush
+32 Magic
-11 Range

Defence bonuses:

+18 Stab
+185 Slash
+130 Crush
+120 Magic
+5 Range
+80 Summoning

34% magic absorption



Yeah, pretty good "mage" armour. It just might be good for an
other combat style too...
